I just wanted to say thank you to film connection and especially to my mentor Joseph for helping me over the last 6 months. I went into the mentor/ apprentice program with a lot of enthusiasm but not a lot of experience. Thanks to their fantastic curriculum and Joseph’s undying desire to see me succeed I have managed to learn so much valuable knowledge of film production. From an early stage he could see that my talents lay with editing, so he concentrated my learning on the editing process. I completed numerous editing assignments and was able to use them on my visits to various studios. They worked so well that one of the studios we visited agreed to take me on, even before I had finished my course. I begin full time in 2 weeks time. I have just left high school and want to work in the film industry. One of my friends suggested I contact film connection with a view to enrolling in a cinematography course. I have been a movie fanatic since child hood. I lived for my Saturday morning trip to the cinema to watch some old Disney movie or cartoon. What truly fascinated me were all the sounds used in movies, how did they make the T-Rex roar in Jurassic Park? So it was an obvious career choice for me to make movies, to make sounds for movies to be more precise. So when I got the chance to study sound design through film connection I jumped at the chance. My one on one mentor has been going through all aspects of sound design, including foley work. There has never been a dull moment during my course. With my training and also with the help of my mentor I hope to get a position inside one of the sound effects houses in Hollywood. I’m keeping everything crossed that I will find my dream job. Making wildlife documentaries has been my dream ever since I was at school. National Geographic and Animal Planet have been my channels of choice since I was a kid. So when I got the chance to actually make and produce my own wildlife docs I jumped at the chance. I enrolled with film connection as they offered me the best chance to get into this exciting industry. My mentor taught me all aspects of wildlife filming and also basic survival techniques, which was a real life saver as last month I spent a week filming the great salmon spawning in Alaska and boy was it cold. Thanks to film connection I have been working making commercials all over the East Coast for just over 5 years now. My Work takes me from my home in New Hampshire, down as far as the Florida Keys and as far north as Nova Scotia in Canada. The work is varied and at time challenging, but it’s great fun to be doing what you want to be doing. Before my course with film connection I was a sales person and I really hated it. Not because of the endless travelling but because I knew I could be doing something better.
